Hi Reader, Every July, my front yard becomes a sea of lavender. One of the things I love most about lavender is that the deer leave it alone. Here in San Rafael, they wander through our neighborhood almost every night, nibbling roses, fresh shoots, and just about everything else—especially if it's pretty. But they walk right past the lavender. Its strong aromatic oils and naturally bitter taste tell the deer everything they need to know: this isn't food. Nature is wonderfully intelligent. Lavender protects itself without force. It simply expresses its own qualities—its fragrance, its oils, its essence. Ayurveda teaches something similar. We spend so much energy trying to fight symptoms, force change, or push through exhaustion. But often the most profound healing comes from strengthening our own nature instead. When we're well-rested, well-nourished, and living in rhythm with the seasons, we become more resilient. We don't have to fight so hard because our bodies naturally know how to protect and restore themselves. Every time I walk by these blooming bushes, they remind me that health isn't just the absence of illness. It's the quiet strength that comes from being deeply rooted. If you've been curious about Ayurveda but aren't sure where to start, I'd love to meet you. Schedule a complimentary Meet with Marisa call, and together we'll explore your health goals, answer your questions, and see whether Ayurveda is the right fit for you. With love, Marisa P.S. Hi Reader, Last night, while I was teaching yoga, I found myself getting a little lost in the teaching. There weren't too many students, so I was able to bring them to the rope wall and spend more time with the standing poses. We were working on lengthening the spine, creating space along the sides of the rib cage, and opening the chest and upper back. At some point, as I stood there explaining the poses, I realized I had entered an almost meditative state. The words and directions seemed to...
Hi Reader, I was in Colorado recently for my nephew Sid’s wedding (Sid also happens to be the person behind much of the web work for my business). Weddings have a way of bringing together people from all the different parts of our lives. Family comes from near and far. People you haven't seen for years suddenly appear in front of you. There are long conversations, short conversations, old stories and new ones. And, in this case, some very big Colorado skies. Not long before the wedding, I had...
Hi Reader, There is something about August that always makes me want to do a little less. Actually, if I'm being honest, this feeling usually starts before August 1. Lately, I have been waking up and thinking, I don't really want to do that today. Not in a dramatic way. I still have things to do. I still teach, write, answer emails, make plans, cook food, take care of the house, and show up for the people I love. But my body seems to have other ideas. My body is on a beach vacation in Italy....
