P.S. Curious what Kitchari is? Try it at home with my recipe:

Kitchari Recipe
• ½ cup yellow mung dal
• ½ cup white basmati rice
• 2 tsp grated fresh ginger
• 1 tsp cumin powder
• 1 tsp coriander powder
• ½ tsp turmeric powder
• 2 tsp lemon juice
• 4–6 cups water
• 1–1½ cups chopped vegetables
• 1 tbsp ghee
• ½–1 tsp salt

To cook:
Sauté spices in ghee until fragrant. Add dal, then rice. Stir. Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce to low, add vegetables, and simmer 30–45 minutes until soft. Finish with salt, lemon juice, and cilantro.

Quick tip: You can also make this in a rice cooker or crockpot!

Father’s Day reflection on aging, effort, and Ayurveda and karma

Hi Reader, Happy Wednesday! Father’s Day is next week. Don’t forget about your dad. Whatever kind of man he was— or is — understanding the influence he had on you can offer surprising clarity. David + Ingrid 2010 I don’t see my father often, but I do see him. He’s a man’s man with a domestic streak — keeps his house and car clean, cooks for himself (not just BBQ!), and still volunteers planting redwood saplings in the Sequoia National Forest. He turns 89 in a few days. Born in 1936, he’s...

Hi Reader, When someone reaches out after a talk I’ve given, it always makes my day—and when Isabella asked me for Ayurvedic book recommendations, it reminded me how often people are looking for trustworthy places to begin. So I’ve put together a curated list of Ayurveda books I’ve found helpful, many of which I still return to. You can see the full list here on my Bookshop.org page. I’m an affiliate there, which means you’re also supporting independent bookstores—and my work when you buy...
